HEALTH AND SAFETY TIPS AND TECHNIQUES - Industrial Office

Your Health and Safety is paramount to us here at DKW Personnel. You acknowledge that you have been informed by DKW Personnel of your responsibilities with regard to the Health and Safety and will undertake to take all practicable steps to ensure your own safety and to ensure that no action or inaction on your part at work causes harm to any other person and will report to DKW Personnel and to the client all hazards of which you become aware and all accidents affecting you at the clients premises.


In the event you are involved in an accident at a clients premises, you declare to inform the client and DKW Personnel within 24 hours or as soon as possible after the occurrence of the accident.


You have already undertaken the DKW Personnel Safety Induction. You should therefore understand and know what to expect once you get to your assignment. Please immediately notify your consultant if you are not given a health and safety induction (emergency exits and procedures etc). ALWAYS wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


Risk Management:

Risk Management is a vital and fundamental step in the management of workplace hazard and the control of those hazards. Identifying hazards, assessing the level of risk they pose and controlling the hazard identified works towards an injury and illness free workplace.

Before commencing the ‘risk management’ process you need to know the definitions:

Hazard: - something that has the potential to cause harm

Risk: - the likelihood of harm arising from exposure to any hazard


Hazard:

Physical Light,Noise,Vibration, Manual Handling, Thermal Stress, Radiation DustChemical Dusts, Gasses, Vapours, Liquids, Drugs or poisons, Biological Hazard Bacteria, Viruses, parasites, Fibres, Blood, Bodily Fluids.


Protective Clothing:

Overalls, Pants, Shirts, Jackets, Hats, Footwear and other task specific items (Clothes must be washed when soiled so as to prevent rashes and dermatitis)


Head & Eye Protection:

Hard Hats, Wide Brim Hats, Soft Hats and Hairnets, Safety Glasses, Face Shields & Fixed Shields (Head & eye equipment must not be worn by others and should a crack appear or hard hat receives a hard blow the equipment must replaced)

Noise Protection:

Disposable or moulded earplugs or earmuffs. Noise above 85 dB(A) must have protective ear equipment. (Noise exposure is cumulative, your hearing could be being damaged without your realising. Dirty earmuffs should not be used)


Skin Protection:

Gloves protect hands and arms. Exposure to substances and handling of different materials can cause cuts, punctures, irritations, burns, rashes, abrasions and bruises.


Foot Protection:

Boots, Shoes, Gumboots and Overshoes (these protect against impact, crushes, cuts and contamination. Footwear with holes, splits or damaged toe cuts should be
replaced)

Respiratory Protection:

Respiratory protects against inhalation of hazardous substances. Airborne hazards include: dusts, fibres, aerosols, smoke and gasses.


Evacuation:


Assist Any Person in Immediate Danger if Safe To Do So

  • Close Any Doors
  • Raise the Alarm – Call Emergency Services
  • Evacuate to Assembly Area
  • Head Count to Ensure Everyone is Accounted For
  • Only Re-Enter Site When the Emergency Services Have Given the All Clear

Lifting:

  • Ascertain Load Weight
  • Position Feet
  • Bend Knees
  • Grasp Object Firmly
  • Lift Object Keeping Object Close to Body
  • Keep Back Straight and Avoid Twisting

Slips, Spills, Trips & Falls:

  • Clean Up Any Spills
  • Warn Others in the Area
  • Block Off the Area – Place Warning Signs
  • Wear Non-Slip Footwear
  • Watch Where You are Going
  • Slow Down
  • Hold Onto Any Railings
  • Watch Where You Are Going

Incident Management:

Report ALL workplace mishaps, incidents and near misses, injuries and illnesses, damage to equipment or materials, dangerous occurrences and hazardous conditions must be reported to the client, supervisor and consultant at DKW Personnel Limited on the day the incident occurs.


Emergency Response:

Emergencies develop quickly. Your immediate response maybe life saving. Know the name and contact details of your first aid officer. Know the emergency warning and evacuation procedures, location of the fire extinguishes and hoses, exists, alarms, telephone and first aid equipment and their correct uses.
