Tips for Preparing your CV / Resume
If you don't have a CV, or you're considering a revamp then we suggest you use the following format:
- Personal Information - (name, home address, email address,
all telephone numbers - work, mobile and home).
- Write a summary paragraph (approx. 80 words) explaining
who you are, what you are and outline your primary skills
and experience.
- Education - To mention a non-existent qualification,
is a misrepresentation, and in some countries a criminal
offence. This will have detrimental consequences for future
employment, thus educational reference details may help
to assist the potential employer. To submit a diploma,
degree or other qualification for which you are only partly
or not at all qualified will affect the validity of the
employment process.
- Work Related Courses - mention dates and length of course.
- Employment / Work History - Always list your work experience
in descending order with current employer first.
- Bullet points help to break up the CV. Employers are
able to get straight to the important points and bullet
points will help direct them there. You should focus on
your skills during the job - when you initiated a particular
project or idea; when you were responsible for a particular
task and when you assisted on a particular task.
- Put the greatest emphasis on your most recent roles.
Summarise older roles. Each position should include dates
and months of employment.
- Work Experience details (if any) and or voluntary work.
- Additional Information - Languages, specific knowledge
and/or experience, memberships of professional and other
organisations, all work related
- Interests - hobbies everything not work related
