Tips for a Great Interview

Remember that first impressions are very important. Therefore ensure that you are completely prepared and presented well before you start.

  • Research as much as you can about the company before hand. Look at their website, print off any relevant information (this is impressive to the Employer and makes you look like you are really interested in their company)
  • Turn off your mobile before going into any interview.
  • Know the exact time and location of the interview, the correct pronunciation of the interviewer's full name and their title.
  • Plan on arriving 10 minutes early before your scheduled interview.
  • Dress smartly and act professionally throughout the interview.
  • If you are unavoidably delayed, notify DKW Personnel immediately giving the reason and your estimated time of arrival.
  • Take a hard copy of your up to date CV/Resume with you to give to the interviewer.
  • Introduce yourself clearly to the interviewer and express yourself throughout the interview clearly.
  • Be confident and most importantly be yourself.
  • Be honest - Honesty is the best policy.
  • Be prepared to show how your experience could benefit the company, by providing examples of how your skills & experience in previous roles will be suited for the new job.
  • Take your time to answer questions. It is better to think through a good answer than to rush into a vague response.
  • Remember you may be coming in for one specific role, however DKW Personnel are trained specialists and have many other roles which may be more suitable for you.
  • Demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role- be honest, if its not the role for you.
  • Don't say unfavourable things about previous employers.
  • Be able to discuss your goals and career aspirations.
  • Listen to the questions and answer them directly.
  • Remember DKW Personnel is here to help you, ask questions as well to find out if the company is going to be right for you.
  • Maintain eye contact with your interviewer.

The interview is a two way process. You need to ask questions as well to find out if the company is right for you. Asking open questions (what, how, where, who or why) will encourage your interviewer to talk and provide you with additional information.

  • Where are they located?
  • What is the company's mission statement?
  • What are the company's products and/or services?
  • What has the company's growth been?
  • Who are the company's competitors?

Reflect back on your past and/or present employer/s as you will be expected to know about a company for which you have previously worked.

Prepare questions you will ask the interviewer. Remember that an interview is all about communication and information needs to flow. The employer will try to determine through questioning if you have the specific attributes needs for the specific position. Likewise you must determine through questioning whether the potential employer will provide the opportunity for growth and development you are seeking. The interviewer will be impressed by your articulation and intelligent, clearly thought out questions.

Probing questions you may consider:-

  • Can you please give me a detailed description of the position?
  • Why has the position become available?
  • What is the culture of the company?
  • What induction and/or training is there?
  • What plans has the company for further development?
  • Which are the best selling products and/or services?

DKW Personnel are here to assist you through the whole process. If you have any further questions after the initial interview, please do ask. Help Us - Help YOU. "When you find a job you love - you will never have to work again".
